Clean Your Stinkin’ Fridge in 10 Minute Increments
Posted on August 18, 2010 · Leave a CommentOn my list of FUN things to do with my time, cleaning my fridge doesn’t show up anywhere on it. Imagine that!
Let’s see … there’s chatting-it-up at The Village Swimming Pool with my gal-pals over a cold big-girl beverage … Yes. That’s definitely on my FUN list. In fact, it has a place of honor! I have getting a mani/pedi listed because I happen to think a trip to the salon is fun in its own girlie kind of way and OH! Look! I have catching a Wednesday flick at the Village Country Club on my list of fun things to do!
But I don’t see cleaning the fridge. Indeed I do not. And do you know why this is?
Because cleaning the fridge is NOT ANY STINKING FUN! That’s right. I said it. It’s NOT fun and I refuse to put it on my FUN list. But alas … I cannot refuse to actually DO this chore. It has to be done and I’m the poor sap who must do it.
I realize, as do you, that maintaining a clean refrigerator is far easier than tackling the 10 week old tomatoes that have become self-aware or swimming through the sludge of wilted lettuce leaves to get to them. But what do we do when we’ve let it go so long, that we have to lasso the entire unit and wrestle it to the ground before we can clean it?
We do it in nasty little chunks … that’s what we do! We take this bad-boy on in 10 minute increments like the refrigerator troopers we were born to be!
Here’s the game plan: Every day, for the next week, pick a shelf or drawer in which to devote 10 minutes of love. Just ONE shelf and just 10 minutes! Then follow these 6 steps in order:
1) Remove everything from that one shelf or drawer
2) toss out the stuff that’s grown teeth or fur and everything that growls
3) wipe up the goop and crud
4) replace liners
5) put stuff back
6) head out to the VCC to put your thang down. It’s just that simple.
For those of you lovable yet demented apartment dwellers bent on the idea of TRULY organizing your fridge like Martha Stewart, FINE. I encourage you to have at it! Go nuts and turn every happy little pickle jar so the label faces out if it makes you happy. While you’re doing that, I’ll be whipping things into shape down by the pool! By the time you get there, I’ll have everyone on floaties in a straight line like little ducks!
Now get to it! Go make Martha proud!

Battle Brain Fuzz With Food
Posted on August 6, 2010 · Leave a CommentYou know how comfort foods work. The day is rough, the mood is dark and so, what do we do? We bake some macaroni and cheese or fry up some crispy fried chicken with a hearty side of mashed potatoes. Then we eat like a crazy-bummed out person and just like magic, we feel better for awhile.
Just like comfort foods bring a sense of … well … comfort - there are foods that can actually improve your concentration. The next time you’re feeling a bit fuzzy, unfocused or tired, give one of these brain foods a try.
Caffeine: If you’re looking for that quick “wake up buzz” then caffeine is your answer. Grab a cup of Joe, a piece of chocolate or throw back an energy drink to boost your energy. Of course, as with all good things, do so in moderation.
Fish: Omega 3 fatty acids are critical to brain development and function. Enhance memory performance by adding two servings of fish a week to your diet.
Avocados: An increase in blood flow equals an increase in brain power. Fruits like avocados and whole grains increase a healthy blood flow throughout the body and that motivates your brain cells. Go brain cells!
Add some brain food to your diet!
